Tagawa Suihou started his career as a comic book
artist in 1925. In 1931 his greatest hit, "Norakuro-kun"
was serialized in newspapers. The comic ran until
1941, in which it became a huge hit in Japan and
especially popular with Japanese troops serving in
Manchukuo. After WWII, Norakuro was resurrected in
reissued manga, newspaper serials, and eventually
made it into new manga, toys, games, and a lackluster
anime during the 1980s. Even today, Norakuro-kun is
still loved by the Japanese armed forces and has fans
worldwide.
